ŽOS Trnava has succeeded in yet another major European tender.
The company, whose main business is the repair of railway freight cars and passenger coaches, this month signed a multi-year contract to repair freight wagons for the state-owned Rail Cargo Austria Aktiengesellschaft. The contract also includes options that define the framework of the cooperation for another seven years.
The value of the contract, including options, is estimated at € 50 million and covers repair of violent damage, restoration and inspection of freight wagons of E, F, H, L, R, S, and T series.
Rastislav Bráblik, director of ŽOS Trnava Freight Wagons Division hailed the tender success as further confirmation of the trend that sees Austrian State Railways turning primarily to ŽOS Trnava for repair of its rolling stock. “For many years, we have been able to take advantage of our many years of experience in inspections and repairs for business partners such as Deutsche Bahn in Germany, České dráhy in the Czech Republic and Ermewa AS in France, as well as our local Slovakian company, Cargo Wagon.”
The first 144 wagons from Austria will be arriving in Trnava for repairs already this year. In the following years, the annual number of wagons coming for repair and restoration is expected to reach between 800 and 1,000 units.
In 2023, approximately 70% of ŽOS Trnava’s manufacturing output, in financial terms, was directed abroad.
